Bathed in Sunlight

Residential Apartment Designed by Yi Lun Wu

In a home with a core family of three, sunlight plays an inevitable and amazing role in their daily lives. By shifting and redefining dimensions within the spaces, a connection is rebuilt between nature and life. The elegant attitude and significance are shown in the details. The showcase and storage capacities are skillfully blended in this poetic atmosphere of liberal living.

As a regular apartment, Bathed in Sunlight features an open layout with redefined compartmental capacities that enable the spaces to be flexibly used. Sunlight is brought to every corner and each moment in the house by enlarging the gallery, corridor, and doorframe. The plants preferred by the wife bring green life to the house. In addition to the cozy finish, storage decorated with subtle tones, fancy wainscoting, and detailed metalwork keeps the space tidy and neat.

The key points of design not only adequately meet the family's storage needs but also skillfully give the house a bright and neat mood. An open layout and the rearranged axial space and its order allow each corner to be bathed in sunlight. A combination of the entrance closet, kitchen appliances cabinet, and TV cabinet is adopted to achieve diversified scenery by switching dimensions and angles. For the users' handy operation, the storage design with three orthogonal axes between the dining room and the kitchen, which contains considerable tableware made with acrylic sheets and easy-to-clean terrazzo floor materials, is both neat and useful.

For a better look of sunlight in life, lines and tones are used subtly by blurring or hiding frames to enlarge the space and manage a free lifestyle. To gain a perfect balance, a combination of white, marble, and earth tones is adopted to achieve a fine finish between rigid order and soft grain. As for showcasing, local curves with metal trim and strips give a novel countenance to the interior under natural light. Wainscoting and tiled decoration enhance the elegance and fine artistic finishes.

With the goal of bathing each part of the house in bright sunlight, the living and dining rooms are reoriented for dynamic interaction between parents and their children. Storage capacities at the entrance and in the dining room and the kitchen are combined by redefined spaces. By using lines, tones, and metallic, strip, curved, and tile details, the space is imbued with fancy fine finishes of art in life.

Integrating storage into the style was a challenge, as it was essential to adequately combine function with sunlight and poetic warmth within spaces, while also meeting the handy, useful, and easy-to-clean needs after use.

This design was awarded Iron in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021.
